Celebration weekend
Celebration weekend Saturday 11th June and Pentecost Sunday 12th June.
We were delighted to welcome Rev Mike Jones back to Handsworth as the preacher for the Saturday re-opening service, Mike was the minister at Handsworth who started the ‘Building in Faith’ project and so it was especially fitting that he came back to see the completed work from what he started all those years ago. Mike preached on ‘transformation’ and ‘new life’ words that had been used about the building work and he went on to say how it is not just the building but, more importantly, is the transformation and new life that Gods Spirit brings to people.
Rev Brian Bullick was invited to be the preacher at the special services on Sunday, it was made all the more special that so many past members were also present. The Sunday evening service was a ‘Songs of Praise’ service for the circuit and members from different churches across the circuit were invited to choose a hymn and speak about why it was significant to them. Brian delighted the congregation with instruction about the singing of ‘And can it be’ making special point of mentioning that the hymn starts with a question and finishes with assurance and so the first and second verse was sung quietly by the ladies with men joining in on the third verse and by the fifth verse the congregation were instructed to ‘let rip’!
